Bourbon Lemonade

Bourbon Lemonade in a glass with a lemon garnish

I was craving a refreshing drink that wasn't going to knock me on my ass the other night so I whipped up this Bourbon Lemonade! It's great after a hot summer day and doesn't have all the sugar of traditional lemonade. With just 5 ingredients it's easy to throw together! Details below.

Prep:

-I always like to have fresh lemon juice and lime juice squeezed in my freezer both for cooking and for cocktails. So you can definitely prep that ahead of time. You also could make this in a big batch and bring to a party or event!

Tips:

-If you were really in a pinch you could use storebought lemon juice or lemonade, but if you are going to use storebought lemonade I would increase the amount of water. The goal of this drink is to be yummy but not overpoweringly sweet

-Any bourbon of your choice would work- I personally use and LOVE High West

Leftovers:

-If you do make a big batch or just have some leftovers, store in an airtight container like a mason jar in the fridge

The recipe:

Bourbon Lemonade

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 5 minutes

Serves: 1 cocktail

For the Bourbon Lemonade

2 fl-oz Bourbon

1 fl-oz lemon juice

1 fl-oz simple syrup

1 1/2 fl-oz water

4 dashes of bitters (I used lemon ones here but regular will work too)

Instructions:

  1. Freshly squeeze lemons for your lemon juice

  2. Put some ice in your shaker, and then add in all your ingredients

  3. Shake for 30 seconds or until the shaker is very cold where your hands can barely touch it

  4. Get a glass of your choice, fill with ice, and top with your drink

  5. Garnish with a lime wedge or slice

  6. Serve and enjoy!
